Today we started our Journals.  First we had to decorate them.  Here are some pictures of our hard work this morning.  Later that day, we did our first writing prompt.

Math in the Morning

This year we start with math right away. We are returning to Number of the Day this year.  Everyday we explore a new number.  Sometimes we talk about multiplication, sometimes shapes.  Sometimes it takes 5 minutes, sometimes 30.  Right now we are in the 15 min range.  Students are sharing their number thinking which is always wonderful to hear.

 As usual we start off the year exploring all the math materials we have in the room.  I brought out Geoboards right away this year.

 The linking chains are new to me, they are pretty cool!

 Shapes are always a hit but no one has ever sorted them before.

 Making groups of ten with blocks is so hard because building things with blocks is much more tempting.

This group enjoys writing number sentences on the white boards and reading from all our math books.

  

Patterns and designs

That was week one in math.  Next up, graphing and assessments.  We start splitting up for math next week!

but notice the dark floors, and new carpet in part of the room.  We will figure that part out eventually.

After hours of hauling and A LOT of work I would like to reveal to you...

TADA! ish.  When I left a few hours ago most things worked.  The Promethean Board wasn't quite running and there are a few more details to work out but the room is ready for YOU.  See you tomorrow friends!
