Pop Art and a little extra homework

Last week we started a small Pop Art project for President's Day.  We looked at work by Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein then, using complementary colors, we painted portraits of President Lincoln.

Your child has a small assignment coming home today.  They should choose an image or thing that is popular to them to photograph or bring in.  On Wednesday we will be creating our own Pop Art associated with the image.  Below you will see some examples of past student work and other examples we have found.

Mad Science: Magnets!

Today, Mad Science came to teach us about magnets for the culmination of our science unit.  Boy was it a fun time.  The videos below are of the beginning exploration session and then scroll down to see more photos + a "take home" each student got!  What a great day....thanks Parent Group for the support!

Magic?  No!  We learned today, it's Science.  Ask your kids about all the vocabulary they used today: Attract, Repel, Magnetic Fields,  Force, Gravity.

Math math math

Hi all,

I know this has taken forever and I am nowhere near finished but I have added two pages to the blog.  You will now find a Math Learning Targets page for all the concepts we should be able to say we CAN do by the end of the year, and a Math Vocabulary page filled with all the words we need to know.  I will continue to add to the Vocabulary page as I get the images in the right place.

Enjoy your extra snowy time off.  Please email me photos of all your activities so I can add them here to share with everyone.  Here's a picture of one of our adventures.  I had never had Pip's Original Doughnuts so we decided to walk there.  Eight miles and many hours later we made it back home.  I still think it was totally worth it!  Oh and Chai was so go too!

Pride Week: Favorite sports/college + Get 'er Done Essay!

Oh my we were tired at the end of this day.  There was a lot of vacant staring into space and write rubbing as everyone finished up their essays for our District Writing Assessment.  Phew.

 There was much editing.

 Final draft writing.
Oh and we were decked out in team colors.
But work comes first.  Look at that focus!
And determination (and excellent Jersey choice)
Toward the end of the day, many of us finished and were rewarded with some "Finish or Free" time.

Which lead to even more creativity and thoughtful work:

Secret messages with crayon and marker.
 Independent drawing.
A choice research project on animals.
 Monster High work.
Finishing up our penny experiment.  Fascinating!
 More secret codes.
 Mine craft and books.
Hang man with friends.
Phew this week was exhausting. We are so glad it's over but also so proud of all that was accomplished.  Here's to hoping we do it again in 2015.

Pride Week: PJ day and The Year of the Horse

Chinese New Year is technically this weekend but we had time today.  We learned about traditions and legends then dove into making our own Dragons!

Such a fun project with a lot of hard work.

Oh and I fully embraced a Broncos/Pride Week theme.
